As part of Cello Express, this concert traces a route through the political history of samba, inspired by the album Samba de Guerrilha by the artist Luca Argel: a journey through time, where we meet stories and characters from the fight against racism, slavery and inequality. The concert includes the participation of the Porto Cello Festival Ensemble, which embarks on this journey through the tradition of samba and the music of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. The live narration takes us back to various moments and personalities from the fight against slavery and the military dictatorship in Brazil, which portrays the creation of samba, and which has in its genesis influences from the traditions of African culture brought by slaves coming from the portuguese colonies.

In a concert that brings together music by Villa-Lobos and arrangements of Brazilian popular music, the bridge between the two continents separated by an ocean is real. This interaction allows the fusion of the cello’s western sonorities with Brazilian popular music almost 100 years after the writing of one of the first works, which portrays this meeting of cultures and gives the motto for the formation of the ensemble of cellos.
