CONCERT
Guido Schiefen
The historical-cultural context in which the work to be presented in this recital arose is a motto of inspiration for our days. Raising themes related to traditional culture, in this case from Hungary, the Sonata in B minor for solo cello by Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967), takes us on a journey through the identity of a people and through the visual and soundscapes so characteristic of this country. Z. Kodály travelled through the most isolated towns and villages of Hungary with the composer Béla Bartók in search of folk music, thus managing to preserve for posterity this essential basis of Hungarian culture. Inspired by this collection of folk music, Kodály wrote one of the most challenging pieces for the instrument he learned at an early age: the cello. Through the interpretation of cellist Guido Schiefen we will be able to witness a dialogue between past and present, showing the power of any culture to innovate and recreate itself over time.
