Cello
Lauro Lira was born in Goiânia, Goiás, but grew up in São Gonçalo, city in Rio de Janeiro. He had his first contact with music through a social-educational project called “Aprendiz – Música nas Escolas de Niterói”, where he had flute lessions and, later, cello lessions with professor Ronildo Alves.
In 2015 he graduated in Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – UNIRIO as Hugo Pilger’s student. In 2020 finished his Master Degree in Performance at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo – ESMAE, under the supervision of Jed Barahal.
In 2010, 2011 and 2013 was invited by Oslo Camerata to participate in Valdres Sommersynfoni, in Norway, and also in many music festivals in Brazil like Oficina de Musica de Curitiba (2011 and 2016), Festival Villa-Lobos (2011, 2013-2015), CINVES (2012 and 2013), Festival de
Inverno do Rio de Janeiro (2012), Festival de Inverno de Domingos Martins-ES (2012) and Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos do Jordão (2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019).
He had the opportunity to share the stage with great musicians like Giancarlo Guerrero, Marin Alsop, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Eiji Oue, Osvaldo Ferreira, Neil Thompson, Alexander Liebreich, Ray Chen, Pavel Milyukov, Pavel Gomziakov, Jed Barahal, and others.
He had masterclasses with Márcio Carneiro, Antônio Meneses, Gustavo Tavares, Martin Ostertag, Bernhard Löcher, Ole Eirik Ree, Alceu Reis, Matias de Oliveira Pinto, David Chew, Mats Lidström, Fábio Presgrave, Jeroen Den Herder, Colin Carr, Denis Severin, and others.
Performed as a soloist with OSN (Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional),OJN (Orquestra Jovem de Niterói), Orquestra Sinfônica da Unirio, Orquestra Barroca da Unirio, Orquestra Sinfônica de Barra Mansa and Orquestra Sinfônica da ESMAE.
In 2011 won the first prize at Concurso de Cordas Paulo Bosísio. In 2016 won honored mention at 17o concurso internacional da cidade do Fundão, in Portugal. In 2017 won the Concurso Jovens Talentos, from Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional. In 2018 won the Concurso Helena Sá e Costa.
Among orchestra and chamber music he played in Brazil, Norway, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
Nowadays, Lauro lives in Porto, where cooperates with many orchestral groups like Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Orquestra Clássica do Politécnico do Porto, and others, and work as a teacher at “A Pauta – Academia de Método Suzuki”.
