Sérgio de A. is a talented pianist born in Porto, where he studied under Miguel Borges Coelho. He completed his degree at the Escola Superior de Música do Porto with the highest classification. Throughout his educational career, his studies with Russian masters such as Vitalij Margulis and Dmitri Bashkirov stand out. In this context, he had the opportunity to meet the eminent pianist and winner of the Van Cliburn Gold Medal in 1973, Vladimir Viardo, who granted him a scholarship to work with him at the University of North Texas. He has also performed chamber music at various festivals, including the Póvoa Vargas International Festival de Música da Póvoa de Varzim, Gaia, Reencontros 21, “Appuntamenti” in Rome and “Sounds of the Universe” at the Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow.
He has recorded live solo performances for Antena 2 and has three chamber music albums recorded live in Rome by IPSAR and produced by Antonio Ciciarelli (RAI). He is a member of the Contratempus Quartet, a group dedicated to the production of contemporary Portuguese operas, and has a duo with pianist Bernardo Pinhal, which won the Ageas/Casa da Música Prize in 2019. He is currently an assistant professor at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo in Porto and at the Escola Profissional de Espinho, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generations of musicians.
