Cello

Tiago Anjinho, born in Coimbra, holds a master’s degree in cello performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London, in the class of the acclaimed cellist and composer Mats Lidström. He is a member of the elite group of the Academy’s Sainsbury Soloists. Winner of national and international competitions such as the Vigo International String Competition, the Fundão International Competition and the Soncello Competition, he has established himself as a promising young cello player in Portugal, and is also the recipient of the Carlos Gomes Foundation/State of Pará Prize and the historic Suggia Prize.
In chamber music, he is a founding member of the Alva Quartet.
He is an academician at the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, principal assistant to the cello section of the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra and collaborates as a freelancer with orchestras and ensembles such as the Royal Birmingham Ballet, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra, Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, Casa da Música Remix Ensemble and São Carlos National Theatre/Portuguese Symphony Orchestra.

He has been artistic director of the À Corda Cello Festival since 2020.
