PEDRO CAMPOS FERNANDES
Cellist at cello express ensemble
Pedro Campos Fernandes is a portuguese cellist based in Lucerne, Switzerland. Described by the cellist Guido Schiefen as characterized by his “intelligence, temperament and knowledge of style” he has been growing in the portuguese and international cello scene, collaborating with several orchestras and being awarded in various competitions.
Born in 1999, he completed his early years of cello studies in his hometown, Lisbon, before being accepted into the highly competitive cello class of Filipe Quaresma in Porto, where he graduated his Bachelor’s degree with top marks.
As a soloist and chamber musician he has been invited to perform in multiple music festivals; the case of Porto Cello Festival, Cellofest.fi, Harmos Festival etc. During these experiences he had also the opportunity of working with great cellists such as Martti Rousi, Claudio Bohòrquez, Jian Wang, Mats Lidström and many more. Pedro has also recently performed solo at the Berner Stadt Casino alongside the Swiss Philharmonic Academy orchestra.
In the orchestral scene, he was an intern of the renowned Gulbenkian orchestra, where he regularly still is invited to play, and has been accepted into the Gustav Mahler Jugend orchestra. Since moving to Switzerland, Pedro has collaborated with several orchestras such as the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Luzern Sinfonietta or the Fribourg Film Orchestra . Throughout his orchestral experience, he had the opportunity to work with various world renowned conductors such as Lorenzo Viotti, Michael Sanderling and Myung-whun Chun.
Pedro Fernandes plays a role in various chamber music groups such as Duo Carlos Paredes, Porto Cello Festival Ensemble, Filum Quartet, and Musica Libera. He now studies for a Master’s degree in Classical Music Performance at the Hochschule Luzern, where he has been working with Christian Poltéra, Claudius Hermann and Guido Schiefen.
