Cellist at Porto Cello Festival Ensemble

 

Described by the cellist Filipe Quaresma as gifted with “an immense natural talent” with an  “elegance and good taste that imposes itself on everything he does”, Pedro Fernandes has been growing in the Portuguese and international cello scene, winning prizes in several competitions.  

Born in July 1999, he studied with Daniela de Brito, Ricardo Mota and Marco Pereira, before being accepted into Filipe Quaresma’s class at ESMAE, where he graduated with a top score. As a soloist and chamber musician, he worked with great names such as Claudio Bohórquez, Christian Poltéra, Martti Rousi, Mats Lidström and John Thorne. On the orchestral scene, he was a trainee at the Gulbenkian Orchestra, having also taken part in several youth orchestras. In 2020 he founded the Ensemble Pessoa and in 2021 took part in creating the artistic volunteer association “Sorrisos d’Arte” where he volunteers. 

Recently has played at the KKL Luzern as a part of Luzern Sinfonietta and worked on a recording and premiere promoted by the ensemble “Contratempus” of an Opera for soprano, piano, cello and clarinet. 

Since September 2021, he studies Master’s degree in Classical Music Performance at the  Hochschule Luzern, Switzerland, under the mentoring of Guido Schiefen.
